Find out how much you earn per sale on Amazon KDP for eBook, paperback and hardcover, with printing cost and annual earnings projection
Frequently asked questions
How does KDP calculate paperback royalties?▼
Royalty = (60% × list price) − printing cost. Printing cost = fixed cost + (pages × per-page cost), depending on marketplace, ink type and page count.
What is deducted for 70% eBook royalty?▼
Amazon charges a per-MB delivery fee on the 70% option, in addition to your 70% share of the price. This tool shows the gross 70% amount — the delivery deduction depends on file size. At 35%, there is no delivery fee.
Why is my royalty negative?▼
This happens when the price is below printing cost divided by the royalty rate (60% for print). Raise the price to at least the minimum shown by the tool.
When does an eBook earn 70% vs 35% royalty?▼
The 70% royalty applies when the price is within the marketplace eligible range (for example, $2.99 to $9.99 on Amazon.com). Outside that range the royalty drops to 35%. The tool automatically shows which rate applies to your price.
How much does Amazon KDP pay per book sold?▼
It depends on format and price: for eBooks you keep 35% or 70% of the price; for print (paperback and hardcover) you get 60% of the price minus printing cost. Use the calculator to see the exact amount per sale in each marketplace.
Which marketplaces and currencies does the calculator cover?▼
All Amazon KDP marketplaces, including Amazon.com (USD), UK, the European Union, Canada, Australia, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, India, Poland and Sweden, each in its local currency.
Is VAT included in the calculation?▼
No. The calculator uses the price you enter as-is, without VAT. For a more accurate result in marketplaces with VAT, enter the price excluding VAT.
